For the Birds: Art from Mass Audubon Visual Arts Center collection
Fruitlands presents the exhibition, For the Birds: Art from Mass Audubon Visual Arts Center collection, opening the 2010 season and featuring remarkable and rarely-exhibited art. The exhibition includes selected works spanning more than two centuries by internationally renowned artists from John James Audubon elephant folio prints to Andy Warhol's Bald Eagle serigraph, all with an intriguingly diverse approach to their subject -- birds. We are pleased to collaborate with the Mass Audubon Visual Arts Center in bringing their collection to a broader audience at Fruitlands. This extraordinary art collection was assembled over the 114 year history of Mass Audubon, new England's largest conservation organization. For the Birds has something for everyone-casual visitors, art enthusiasts, backyard birdwatchers, adults and/or children. The exhibit opens with a preview reception on Sunday, April 11 at 6 p.m. Check our events calendar for bird-inspired programming throughout the year.

WORKSHOP, Playing by Ear with Jim D'Ville
Details to Follow. Uke instructor Jim D'Ville will present his workshop on playing by ear. The date is coming up soon, so please RSVP right now to hold your spot. Jim has a ton of free and useful information at his website: http://playukulelebyear.blogspot.com/ He seems like a really nice guy and I think the workshop will be a treasure trove! Don't know what the user fee will be for this, but I'll let you know as soon as I do. danno Play Ukulele By Ear (All Levels Welcome) Get off of that piece of paper and learn to Play Ukulele By Ear. This entertaining and informative workshop will give you the tools you need to tap into your innate musical abilities. Playing by ear is easy, it's fun and it will propel your understanding of how music works to a new level. This workshop will make you a better listener and student! All skill levels welcome, however, knowledge of basic chord shapes (C-F-G7) is helpful. Comments from Jim DVilles How to Play Ukulele by Ear Workshop: A fabulous, logical and freeing way to approach music. Now I will use my ears! Duh-why didnt I think of that? Great workshop! I didnt think it was possible to teach by ear. Your workshop has inspired me to move to the next level. Lots of Ah-ha moments! Here are two other workshops I present. I can add some of the next level workshop depending on how advanced your group is. Chord Progressions by Ear: Beyond The I-IV-V (All Levels Welcome) Being able to hear chord progressions will go a long way toward demystifying music and will allow you to learn tunes right off your favorite CD. Tune your ears into the sound of the tri-tone, dominant seven and diatonic chord progressions. This exciting workshop will open your ears to the way all songs work.
